Peranakan Culture

After hearing so much about the Peranakan Museum in Singapore, I made it a point to visit it this time around and it was worthwhile tour. The entrance was S$6.00 per adult. For those who are into beading especially the kasut manik, this museum is a treasure trove. Best of all, you are allowed to take photographs (without flash).

It features a culture which is sadly fading even though some people are trying pretty hard to preserve it.

Had the opportunity to meet one such man, Mr Peter Wee owner of Katong Antique House. He conducts tour of the house with prior appointment with costs S$15.00 per pax and after the tour he serves tea with pineapple tarts (yummy!

BTW, Katong is known as the Peranakan belt of Singapore, so a stroll along East Coast Road will be a very educational one. Besides, these 'antique' houses, there are lots of yummy food to savour!

Jess told me how you, June, Tony and her had a great time at the museum and the Peranakan tour. I saw the interesting photos of the beautiful beaded/Peranakan items on her camera!

Not to mention all the food that was consumed! LOL!!

And how she unwittingly joined the Bento madness when you and June were 'stocking up'! LOL!!
